ARTISTS / Paleologue, Jean de (PAL)

French 1860-1942
PAL was the pseudonym adopted by the French fin-de-siecle artist, Jean de Paleologue. He is most famous for his many excellent bicycle posters. The classic Pal figure is the buxom woman, scantily clad, and bordering on kitsch. After Jules Cheret, he was the most prolific and successful poster artist of his era.
