Fete du Savon a grand success at LMR et Cie

We've had a marvelous time getting this anniversary exhibition up and running. The opening party was a big success and despite the damp weather; many friends and new faces were able to attend. Molly, the two Michaels, and gallery 'inner circle' regular–Vinny, all worked hard to keep the champagne and delightful munchies from Miel Patisserie flowing throughout the evening. A special thanks too, to James Zeleniak of Punch Media, and his able new assistant, Sarah Stockton-Brown for helping to welcome guests.

Of course, the exhibit owes its very soul to the research and dedication of Michael Hartman, who served as curator. Michael spent many hours pouring over the collection and writing excellent commentary to accompany the original period labels on display. Soap and perfume labels have never before been subjected to such scholarly scrutiny, and have proved themselves worthy of much more serious consideration in the future, beyond mere decoration.

We are planning to go through with publishing a book illustrating these miniature works of art and commerce. We invite your participation, if you have any worthwhile images or information on the original factories to contribute.

We will be posting photos of the 'Fete du Savon' exhibit "in situ" shortly. If you haven't already stopped in to 1714 to see the display in person, I urge you to do so before the end of July.
